LuvTrails’ micro-donations is a no-brainer, says Narburgh

HENDERSONVILLE, NC –   “We call them micro-donations and it doesn’t sound like a lot… But if everyone that rides our trails over a weekend donates just $5 that would be magical.”  Wise words by Natalie Narburgh, first full-time executive director of Pisgah Area SORBA (PAS) in Brevard, NC.

Pisgah SORBA exec Natalie Narburgh

During the interview, McQueen asked Narburgh about their decision to partner with LuvTrails-Trailcare for their Strava-linked per-mile donations or so-called micro-donations. She totally validated the group’s use of Trailcare and said this: “If you look at the (PAS) bank statements it is just little micro-donations, 5 bucks here, maybe like 7 bucks here, 10 bucks here, and then you add it all up (since April 2022) and it comes to around $1,500 in donations just from LuvTrails. That’s a really awesome number. Imagine that in this short couple of months and extrapolate that to the next couple of years, and it is going to be wonderful.”

Speaking from her personal experience the past few months with Trailcare, which included a trip to Montana, Narburgh said the trail users that she told about Trailcare were excited about the ease of use and need for the app. When you explain the concept of Trailcare (per-mile donations) to trail users their reaction was that it seems like a “no-brainer”.

“Of course, it makes sense to donate a couple of cents per mile to the group that maintains those trails. It’s an easy way to track it. It makes the donation process so easy – you literally just click the donation button in the email that you receive after your ride and approve (or not). It is a really neat concept. And it is nice that you have to confirm the donation every time you receive the email,” she said.

“I also think it is cool going to travel to other places (outside your local trail area) and riding and you get to see which non-profit is associated with the maintenance of those trails. It is a neat little education piece.”

Narburgh said: “We call them micro-donations and it doesn’t sound like a lot… But if everyone that rides our trails over a weekend donates just $5 that would be magical.” Indeed. Imagine if most of the estimated 10,000 trail users of the Pisgah National Forest trails would sign up at Trailcare and make a small contribution every time they ride!
